First it was the Sam scandal, yesterday it was the 12-lane bridge, and today this local commercial for Oak Furniture Warehouse is making Portland the laughing stock of the internet. Remember when everyone used to love us? Remember when we used to deserve it?

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. This is a great commercial! Of course it’s cheesy, not only the song and the production values, but the furniture itself. But it has fun and personality in the tradition of great local commercials like Tom Peterson and Thomason Autos commercials of yesteryear.

If you want to pick on commercials, try going after the inane beer ads on with every sporting event, or those awful e-Trade commercials with the arrogant talking babies, or those terrible American Express spots with the exasperated producer whose director is making a bike-riding squirrel movie.

  2. was i the only person who went to tom peterson (and gloria’s too) and was insanely mad they didn’t have the clocks in the advertisement?

  3. This, this, this oak chest makes me so hard
Makes me say “Oh my Lord”
    Thank you for purchasing me
With a place for clothes and four hype feet
It feels good, when your room is clean
A super dope armoire fine-grained nice sheen
Our wares, are known as such
And this is a store, uh, you can’t touch.
