I was at City Liquidators this weekend marveling over a bunch of early 90s toys they have in stock right now (including this Wayne’s World 3D Card Game), and it got me thinking about all the forgotten gems of the era. I remember watching a show called California Dreams one summer as a kid. It was basically a Saved By the Bell knock-off. The only things that made the show different from SBTB were:

โ€ข The teen characters were in a band together.
โ€ข There was no nerdy Screech character.

Does anyone else remember this show? Check out the cheesy opening credits:

And here’s a clip of the show, complete with ‘roid rage anti-drug message:

  1. That show was amazing. Second only to Breaker High, which pretty much had the same plot (and was later in the 90’s), except that the kids were on a ship. Like semester at sea for high schoolers. Also, Ryan Gosling was on it.

  2. That show made my fifth grade year worth living. I used to write love letters to Ryan Gosling, actually.

    He never wrote me back.

    Mario Lopez wrote me back.

  3. Oh my god, yes. Dude in the leather jacket was one of my first shameful adolescent crushes. (Him and young Ryan Gosling, as noted above.)
