So TBS is developing a new competition reality show called King of the Nerds (debuting January 17). On one hand (from TV Line):

Hosted by Revenge of the Nerds alumni Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong, King of the Nerds will pit 11 competitors in challenges that test their “intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture prowess.” The nerds will first compete as teams before moving on to individual challenges, all with their eyes on a $100,000 prize.

However, on the other hand:

Star Trek favorite George Takei, along with Kevin Smith and the filmmaker’s frequent collaborator/Jay to his Silent Bob, Jason Mewes, will be among the guest judges on the TBS reality competition.

Hmmmmmmm…

  2. I’m going to go ahead and condemn this for perpetuating the male domination of geek/nerd culture. Though I would REALLY love to see a woman crowned King of the Nerds, I doubt that would happen in this kind of arena.

  3. FUN FACT: The only thing more boring than “nerd culture” discussions in general would be discussions concerning particularly gender issues in said culture.
