I’m not exactly sure how they did it, but somehow The Colbert Report successfully celebrated Black History Month by producing a cartoon called “Laser Klan”—in which President Obama is forced to ask laser-toting Klansmen to fight off an invasion of aliens. And against all odds, it’s unbelievably hilarious. Oh, I’m still convinced that this was a terrible idea, as does Colbert’s parent company Viacom. But (thank god) he did it anyway. I’ll never doubt you again, Stephen Colbert. Only you can pull off… the impossible.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. Glorifying the Klan is not going to go well in most minds but at the heart of the comedy I get it (no holds barred). Though most are showing a fatigue in the punishable subject of racism, it still was a bad move to show that during black history month and not to mentioned his comments after the showing of the skit.
