Pizza-a-Go-Go

3240 N Williams, 335-0300

A new, cute little joint right off the Kerby exit from 405, Pizza-a-Go-Go is a great place to pick up a thin crust, extra cheesy, steaming pie on your way home from work (one big size, $13.50-$21), or even better, have delivered (they deliver all over). They also have three or four tables in the funkily decorated store front, and serve beer, so if you want to stop in for a slice and a beer, it’s a great, quick-as-hell option. PAGG also offers two tasty salad selections: the Caesar and the Slick (lettuce, tomato, red onion, feta, black eyed peas, vinaigrette), to supplement your pie with some greens. KS

Old Lompoc

1616 NW 23rd, 225-1855

The Old Lompoc has recently become the meeting spot for the Friday afternoon lunches of a local chowder enthusiast group dubbed “The Chowderheads.” I probably don’t need to tell you that these enthusiasts know their chowder, thus the weekly meetings in the woody, casual, chowder savvy atmosphere of the ‘Poc. For anti-chowderheads, or people who aren’t dining on Friday, the ‘Poc’s savory “bar food plus” menu offers a great burger, a fish burger, a brewers club with turkey and bacon, mac and cheese, and a soup and salad option for lunch that’s about $5. (Their French Onion soup, served daily, is as great as their chowder). Also, stop by the Lompoc for their cheap, happy-hour nachos and drink specials, weekdays 4-7. KS

Bridges

2716 NE MLK, 288-4169

Every time I’ve been to Bridges lately, it’s not been packed, which is exactly what I like. You might think that this not-packedness is a reflection on the food, but I guarantee it isn’t, and is probably more a reflection of the fact that I eat Saturday breakfast at two o’clock. The Eggs Fiesta is one of Bridges’ great dishes: two poached eggs over cheesy potatoes, with salsa and sour cream, and corn bread. Also, they make some fine grits, great omelets, a huge breakfast burrito, and a downright delicious Eggs Benedict. They’re open until three pm on the weekends and two on the weekdays, but I hear they’ll be serving dinner soon. Updates to come. KS
