Anyway, a long time ago, I posted this nitpicky rant, ripping into some hapless asshole’s disturbingly poor understanding of the franchise and its VERY IMPORTANT minutiae. I struck a blow for justice and decency and nerds, etc. I was a champion, a hero, even. Then, this weekend, I posted the following video:

OH, HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN! I HAVE BEEN SHAMED! I AM UNWORTHY! Because that screenshot clearly shows the engineering lab from the Galaxy-class Enterprise-D, a ship what wasn’t invented, or even built, until decades after Starfleet largely stopped using the Constitution-class Enterprise shown in the commercial’s establishing shots. And I let that pass unremarked upon.
But that wasn’t my only sin. Hit the jump for further evidence of my failure.
Right about then, deep in the throes of humiliation, I was ready to make like a Vorta who, you know, failed to serve the Founders. I implored Erik to write a post savaging me, and he agreed. But then? Salvation.
How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life, wouldn’t you say?

AS THIS COMMERCIAL IS OBVIOUSLY NOT CANON, THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT IN THE EXPANDED UNIVERSE. DENIS IS OKAY WITH ALLOWING MINUTAE TO PASS BY UNMOLESTED. INSTEAD, HENRIKSEN FELL INTO’S DENIS’S NERD-TRAP.

It’s the Constitution Class Enterprise, post TOS refit, as you can CLEARLY see them using footage of the ship about to enter standard orbit around Regula Class-D asteroid from ST 2. Since this Enterprise lacks battle damage, we can assume this mission took place during their next Five-Year Mission after their conflict with the V’Ger probe in ST: TMP, probably a year after. (As we all know that was when the bad body-suit uniform was dropped in favor of the burgundy style with ranking flap). Though why Scotty is in a ST5 era Engineering suit is beyond me.
And sadly, while this entire comment from me is a joke… It doesn’t change the fact that I didn’t have to look up any of the above “facts”.

You’re totally fine, there’s a shot in Star Trek VI of Scotty clearly in the Enterprise-D engineering set and they didn’t even replace the TNG yellow Okudagrams with the TOS movie style green ones. So the Enterprise-D apparently had a “retro” design.
They’re cheap bastards and we put up with it. They should have rebuilt the engineering set from the first movie.

And then in Generations they flipped the Bird of Prey explosion from the Star Trek VI fight. Behold, the temporal causality loop of cheapness!
