Am I the only one who notices such a massive difference between PSU and OSU/ UO libraries? There they have the best of both worlds; comfortable furniture and open spaces full of focused QUIET people.

Here at PSU we have one comfortable area in the entire library and if you want quiet you must go to the claustrophobic and stale quiet floors where you’ll isolate yourself in a corner on some stiff peice of wood.

Really it just makes this place seem so unprofessional- the library is now a place for the primarily foreign students to talk on their phones and yell at each other. No I’m not ‘prejudice’ I’m telling you what I observe. It probably isn’t the fact that they’re foreign but maybe that they are trapped in a city on campus i dunno but get a life somewhere other than a library.

I’m trying to find just ONE place on this entire campus where I can maintain focus but it’s not happening. i try comming in in the morning but out of the ENTIRE open floor someone feels it’s okay to sit close to me and start talking on their phone in a loud voice, and what can I say? Nothing; this is not the quiet floor and being loud is the standard that PSU has set. Hey no big deal it’s not like I have 400 level physics courses to tackle or nothing. Whatever I’ll finish either way and when I do I will let it be known what a joke this place is.

  1. As the holder of a degree from PSU, I will not stand idly by while IAnon sullies the reputation of a fine . . . .

Oh, look out the window, its a birdie. Hi birdie!!!!!

  2. Even if it isn’t a quiet floor, you can still tell people to STFU if they’re having loud phone conversations in a library where people are studying.

Being rude and inconsiderate isn’t illegal (obviously), but that doesn’t mean you can’t still call people on it.

  3. PSU makes you pay for the piece of paper (degree). They don’t give a shit about what kind of education you receive, except for the mandatory PC core classes they force you to endure.

Granted, you generally get out of school what you put in, but PSU practically handicaps your educational opportunities. On the whole, I’d say a degree from PSU is equivalent to a 9th-10th grade education of 10-15 years ago.

How do I know this you ask? I wasted $18K to complete my degree at that joke of a school. They have a few good programs, but the school is more like a business than anything else. Think Olive Garden.

  4. The quiet 4th floor study lounge in Smith, right past the ‘walk way’ area, is an option. It also benefits from being open whenever the doors to the Smith building are unlocked, so you are not dependent on library hours. Although on the weekends you need the ‘official’ PSU ID to get in and not the faux credit card ID version.

I hope this helps because I completely understand what you are complaining about, and it’s real. This Smith lounge really saved me a few times, as I don’t have the ability to study well with a lot of noise around. Good luck!
