Keep your ticket handy: TriMet is bumping up its security team. Since October 2011, TriMet has cracked down on fare-jumpers, issuing six times as many citations as it did in the previous year. Today, the public transit agency announced that it has hired six new fare enforcement officers this week—bringing its total number to 26—and a new K-9 team funded by a federal grant.

Who is on this K-9 team? A black lab named Snoopy and a transit cop named Officer Stoner.

I’m not sure if Boat Cop needs any allies, but if he doesn’t feel like playing Bus Cop, Snoopy ‘n StonerTM will have it on lockdown.

Sarah Shay Mirk reported on transportation, sex and gender issues, and politics at the Mercury from 2008-2013. They have gone on to make many things, including countless comics and several books.

  1. Wow! Just in time for Florida v. Harris!

Hey kids: want to have a good time while undermining the ability of authorities to invasively search you or intimidate you with an animal?

Ground up dog treats and cat hair, sprinkle it on TriMet property.

  2. Drug sniffing (or bomb) dogs have no business on transit.
Police state encroaching on citizens lives.
Our disgraceful masters pretending its about ‘our’ safety.
