I’ve been harassed by campus police multiple times for no reason- i have no criminal record, they are just profiling me because i don’t look typical. It’s one thing for a campus security guard to do so -you can give them a piece of your mind to and walk away, it’s another for an armed police officer to do so who you cannot walk away from if you feel he/ she is in the wrong (though I still give them a piece of my mind). I do not pay their salary to be treated like a slave or criminal when I’ve done nothing wrong, if they are armed and have the right to harass me then I will arm myself, expect that.

Let’s all give a round of applause for guns in schools! It’s ridiculous to think 4 ft tall security guards in serious need of something better to do are going to benefit from guns in a city with one of the lowest violent crime rates in the fucking universe!

  1. While I don’t think arming yourself really will help you achieve an outcome you desire, our police in this country have become so militarized, we basically have a occupying army here. Our military have become a world police while our police have become a military.
Just wait until PSU Campus Police get Dept. of Defense Hellfire missile hand me downs!

  2. PSU used to have students employed as guards. They were nice and helpful. State schools ought to call the State Police. Most students nowadays carry concealed carry permits.

  3. “Most students nowadays carry concealed carry permits.”

If by most you mean over fifty percent, I find that extremely hard to believe. According to a story last year in the Oregonian, the number statewide is about 1 in 16, or 6%. Any statistics you can cite to show that students have permits at nine times the rate of the general populace? Especially given that you can’t get a permit until you are 21 years old?

By the way, the head of PSU security is a retired OSP lieutenant.

  4. The President of PSU likes having his own police force, accountable exclusively to him, but with so many police already downtown, it’s a redundant waste of money at best, and a reckless liability in any event. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Who in their right mind would call Campus Security if they really needed the Police, anyway? With a department of student employees as guards, in addition to, two Oregon State Police officers on duty per shift, would be more than sufficient. This quasi legal squad of NAZI emulators puts the university at risk for lawsuits. Students deserve to be served by college educated peers, rather than uneducated brutes.

  5. assisse going pro-gun up in this beeatch?!?!?!? Shocking. Although, he’ll probably need some fire power when the rioting begins. The disenfranchised will be able to smell his fear from a mile away.

  6. The main precinct of the Portland Police Department is only a few blocks away, as is the Multnomah County Jail. If they can’t service Portland State University, then put armed State of Oregon Police on Campus. It is not the job of security guards to apprehend criminals or shoot students for contempt of security guards. It is their job to chase people off. If the guards need to trespass somebody, let them follow the suspects while in cell phone contact with police dispatch. Portland State University has the motto: “The City is your Campus!” If PSU doesn’t like city life, then let them return to the original location, in Vanport.
