
We got a press release this morning from Ted Wheeler’s campaign alerting folks the Portland mayoral candidate will be airing television ads for the first time. The headline: “Ted Wheeler TV Ads Promise ‘No Slogans, Just Solutions.”
But “No Slogans, Just Solutions” is a slogan, right? Merriam-Webster says “slogan” means “a word or phrase that is easy to remember and is used by a group or business to attract attention.”
I asked Wheeler’s communications director Annie Ellison if “No Slogans, Just Solutions” was, in fact, a slogan.
“Ted has progressive solutions to the issues Portlanders face,” she wrote back. “We’re proud that Mustafa, Greg, and Mary are standing with him.”
The ads feature Portlanders named Mustafa, Greg, and Mary. Here’s one of the ads (note, 25 seconds in, the non-slogan slogan):
