The Hollywood Theatre is picking up its outdoor movie series again this summer, with four music-themed films scheduled to screen at Oregon State Parks in the Portland area through August. It’ll kick off this Saturday, June 30, with the Coen brothers’ Odyssey-riffing classic O Brother, Where Art Thou? at Rooster Rock State Park, located along the majestic Columbia River just a half hour from downtown Portland.

Next up: the original 1988 version of Hairspray (whew), the most commercially successful (and kid-friendly) film from the venerable Pope of Trash John Waters, which will screen Saturday, July 14 at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park in Washington County. Then there’s 2017’s beloved Disney movie Coco (Saturday, July 21 at Champoeg State Heritage Area), and the 1968 concert film Monterey Pop (the one where Jimi Hendrix lights his guitar on fire), which will screen Saturday, August 18 at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada.

The screenings commence at dusk, and they’re free (parking is too) and open to all ages.
