GOOD MORNING, PORTLAND! If you feel like dancing, well, come on, it’s up to you. We got the sound to keep you getting down, down. The train is coming through. LET’S GO TO PRESS.

In an Oval Office interview, the increasingly desperate Trump railed against the Russia investigation, and continues to threaten to declare a national emergency in order to build his racist wall. In the same interview, Trump whined non-stop about being treated unfairly by the press, and said to the New York Times, “I’m sort of entitled to a great story — just one — from my newspaper.” ENTITLED.

Related: After attempting to humiliate his own national intelligence chiefs, Trump now says the media “misquoted” them… in a public congressional hearing.

The US is suspending one of the last nuclear control treaties with Russia, after the country deployed a missile near the European border, clearly violating the treaty already in place.

Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey is the latest to enter the 2020 presidential race.

In order to shore up their base—who only respond to terror tactics apparently—Republicans are pouncing on the “scary, radical” ideas of Democrats. (You know, like universal health care, women’s rights, and eating the rich. Okay, fine, “eating the rich” is my platform. But I think it’s gonna catch on!)

More than 21 people have died in the polar vortex that has frozen the midwest.

Welp, FACEBOOK FUCKED UP AGAIN—this time by distributing an app that allowed them to spy on user’s activities. But this time, Apple struck back by shutting down all of Facebook’s internal iPhone apps which caused all sorts of havoc in their company. Have you deleted Facebook yet, by the way? You should, you know.

IN LOCAL NEWS: Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty is stepping up to support owners of Portland’s URM buildings—the kind that could be destroyed in a massive earthquake—and is delaying a city ordinance that would label the buildings as unsafe until necessary (though very expensive) upgrades are made.

PBOT allowed e-scooter companies to redact public records before their release—which is not exactly working in the public interest.

Clark County’s measles outbreak continues to grow, now reaching 41 confirmed, and 15 suspected cases. Related: My column in the latest issue of the Mercury, which happily chastises anti-science fools like anti-vaxxers and fluoride haters. YOU… ARE… WELCOME!

Now let’s look at the WEATHER: Lots of showers today with a high of 49, and a somewhat improved weekend.

And finally, CHRIS EVANS, man. He is so great.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
