Is there any Christmas song as sweet and salty as “Fairytale in New York” by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl? When I briefly lived in Ireland I was delighted to find that “Fairytale” was treated with the kind of reverence usually reserved for hymns. It’s classic status and memorability are undoubtedly thanks to the song’s most infamous couplet: “You’re a bum, you’re a punk. You’re an old slut on junk. / Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed / You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap, lousy faggot / Happy Christmas your arse, I pray god it’s our last.”

RIP Kirsty MacColl — not Kristy.
I love hearing her on the Smiths “Ask”, probably my favorite of theirs.
Ugh, whoops. Fixed. Blame the Guinness.
At 4% alcohol, you can hardly blame Guinness, you lightweight.
My favorite Christmas song. Thanks Dave!
Been saving this for a special occasion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpmpXVEX13k
Something about doing duets with women brings out my favorite things about Shane. He comes across as kinda cuddly in his stupor. I like this one a lot:

While we’re talking Shane MacGowan duets, here’s a good one with Nick Cave on “What A Wonderful World”. Check out the bobblehead action on Shane:
