Finger-pistol packing mamas!

I just saw this billboard on NE Sandy for the upcoming Miss Black Oregon 2011 beauty pageant/scholarship program.

Finger-pistol packing mamas!

  • Finger-pistol packing mamas!

I’m not even sure what to say about this, except to make a “world peace speech” joke.

  1. Black people!!

(Why is it when Blogtown posts about black people, it’s either about how they were discriminated against in the 1960s or pointing out how ridiculous they currently are? Don’t reply: it’ll only make it worse.)

  2. Is that what we’re pointing out here Chundy?

I thought we were pointing out how dumb it is that some photographer or poster designer asked a bunch of black beauty contestants to pose as if they had guns.

(Alternately, and I quote the great Brendan Fraser, “My stars! A negro!”)

  3. @nex You’re right Nex. The fact that they’re black has *nothing* to do with the post!

If they had been “white”, I’m certain that the merc would have run the same story. Then again, it wouldn’t have been as funny because “whites” aren’t being shot at (or shooting each other)!

Yup. I’m just seeing racism in places where it doesn’t exist! How dare I! Please accept my apology; I will never criticize the Merc for its non-racist posts ever again!

    ยกExclamation point!

(Also isn’t there a sale at Fred Myers you should be reporting on? No. Oh well.)

  4. ??What is it with this Place??

    It STINKS in Here!!

From the Ugly Tone & Mocking Characterizations of the Blogger, Courtney Ferguson; (“Finger-pistol packing mamas!”) to the Blatantly Hateful Bigoted Comments posted by Nearly Everyone on this Board… & the Casual Jovial Spirit in which You All berate African Americans is Horrifying!

So much for Post Racial America…
But Hopefully this “Sickness” is only confined to Portland, Oregon…
No, no, maybe its just this website!

The Portland Mercury News Attracts Hateful, Twisted, Diseased Lost Souls!!

Actually, that Billboard is Rich in Positive Metaphoric Socio-Political Commentary.
(Hint: Take the โ€œCharlieโ€™s Angels Pose Tributeโ€, Charlieโ€™s Angels are โ€œLaw Womenโ€ protectors & servers of Societyโ€ฆ โ€ฆ How about the young lady in the center Holding Down the PEACE SIGN โ€ฆ. What does that mean in the whole scheme of things??) & what of the other poses??

Implication = Targeting Education can Transform Civilization * The Highly Educated, don’t commit Crimes against Property and People. …Kind of OBVIOUS Right— Duh

Unfortunately, You would be “Superior Class of People” have so Nauseated and Alienated any desire to Illuminate and Apprise you with an complete Interpretation of the Subliminal Archetypical Metaphoric Imagery of the MBO 2011 Boardโ€ฆ โ€ฆ โ€ฆ

If the Generous Hint does not suffice, You Will have to Remain in Your Own Deranged & Poisonous Hate Filled Delusions.

You Pathetic Excuses for Human Beings need Professional Psychotherapeutic Intervention & Some Serious Prayer:-(

@ Courtney Ferguson, You Should Be Ashamed of Yourself!

It is Garbage like this, that keeps America from being the Beautiful Magnificant Place it Truly Is!!

  5. The weirdest thing about all of this, as I see it, is that the Miss Black Oregon pageant is being held in a venue built for the purpose of hosting a secretive organization of men of almost exclusively European extraction. I guess the LDS temple in Lake Oswego was already booked…

  6. Nice Fedora & Snub Nose Gun,
    Evil Courtney Ferguson…

ur a tasteless low life hypocrite,
mocking & berating high school children…

Pissing on a peoples celebration of liberation
    & Survival of Slavery Tyranny & Oppression=

Ur lower than shiiitt, putrid decay & bile….

    I’d Love 2have a seat @ ur trial*

  7. @ Chundy: Really? That’s your argument? But … Y’know what? Nevermind. You win. You’re totally right. Way to unmask us all as the Klansmen we truly are.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go lie down. I feel a massive headache coming on.

  8. >Post Racial America

    LLLLOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL

    METAVERSE IS SO META

Love the “we have a black president now so America is post-racial” attitude. Hiiiiilaaaaarious.

  9. I am not even going to touch the previous comments although there are some revealing statements. I am going to direct this to the blogger:be honest, if this were 12 white pageant contestants in a similar pose on a billboard would you notice or comment? Honestly? I went by this billboard on the bus yesterday and other than briefly checking out the ladies (especially the one in the middle! Sorry, I’m a man)it drew no other reaction other than…odd placement for this ? I noticed the pose but it did’nt really trigger any deep social thought in me….maybe because I was’nt looking for it. Or maybe because I was born in Washington DC, and served in the USMC and lived in New York and the South before coming here. Or maybe because I see this as just media and not some lame attempt to make social commentary. I think I understand your comment. I also think it’s abysmally stupid

  10. Yes, I would’ve blogged this had the women been white or purple or polka-dotted. Sheesh, what’s the world coming to when a girl can’t make fun of a beauty pageant (especially one with a poorly conceived ad campaign).

  11. @ Super Racist Courtney

YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. You just sit there, typing away, without a care in the world that while your BLACK text does all the heavy lifting of communicating, your WHITE background doesn’t do anything other than passively provide contrast.

Jesus, people. The comments for the last 24 hours or so should be archived on a new “Biletown” site, or maybe just on Questionland, so we don’t have to worry about them ever being seen again.

  12. so I guess people won’t be happy until someone hosts Miss White Oregon with an equally hilarious billboard for the Mercury to make fun of.

Honestly, folks, this is not worth getting upset about.

  13. Courtney, honest answer and my apologies, I was confused earlier and this is why I posed the question. I do agree the theme of the billboard is ill conceived given the subject they are addressing…….and yeah, pageants in general are cheesy, no argument
