  1. While walking along the Park Blocks some time ago with a friend visiting from Germany, he referred to Pigeons as “Rats of the Air”.
    I haven’t looked at them the same since.

  2. It’s a shame that people aren’t really more aware of these show pigeons. They’re living monuments to mankind’s ingenuity because they’re all the result of careful selective breeding over thousands of years of domestication. By the way, the one on the top doesn’t have a lot of breast; it’s actually blowing up its crop with air. This is very much akin to the behavior of a Frigatebird (see here: http://www.inkas.com/tours/jpg_files/jpg_photos/galapagos/coral/frigate_bird.jpg)
