Yesterday, Portland Button Works launched in a tiny storefront on North Killingsworth. The store specializes in custom-made buttons, magnets, and bottle openers—you can design your own, or choose from any of the designs displayed in picture frames on the store’s walls. (Individual and bulk pricing available—details are on the website.) Three button-making machines (button presses?) are on hand, so customers can make their own buttons, or order ’em. The store also sells a decent selection of zines and indie comics.

Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.

  1. I just wanted to say that this headline becomes way awesomer if you’re like me, and you frequently use “button” as slang for anus.
