Something I noticed: Every time I get into a Car2Go lately, the radio dial is inevitably set to 107.1 FM. Not only is this a heartening sign, it saves me the trouble of changing the station.

I used to be an OPB devotee. I still listen to KMHD and KBOO a decent amount. But more and more these days, the local radio I most want to listen to is XRAY.FM.

In the two years since its founding, the station’s massively expanded its broadcast territory, and brought on a slate of progressive programming and local DJs that play a delightful array of cuts at all hours of the day. True, the Mercury has a weekly slot on XRAY—for 15 minutes or so at 8:30 am on Thursdays—and we’ve cosponsored events with them, but my affinity for the station extends well beyond any of that.

The station’s on the last day of a fundraising drive, today. You should donate or become a member.

I'm a news reporter for the Mercury. I've spent a lot of the last decade in journalism — covering tragedy and chicanery in the hills of southwest Missouri, politics in Washington, D.C., and other matters...

  1. Car2Gos remember the radio station that you left it tuned to. When you enter a new car, it changes the radio to the station you were last listening to. I’ve never once, in 50+ trips, had it start tuned to XRAY.FM.

  2. Yes, Car2Go remembers the last station you listened to. And since XRAY is clearly the best station on the radio, I keep mine there too. 🙂
