Look, there’s no point in trying to sugarcoat it. This week sucks for biking. It’s raining, it’s freezing, it’s dark, whatever, it sucks.
So, for some inspiration, here’s two photo essays from the internet this week.
One: Biking vikings in Copenhagen, where apparently 80 percent of residents continue to bike through the winter despite snow drifts and frequent sub-zero temps.
Two: A Tumblr of old photos of celebrities on bicycles including this gem for Star Trek fans (Uhura on a Moulton).

Bike me up, Sarah.
Oooh, that photo of Uhura makes my swimsuit area feel tingly.
It’s almost sunny out and not raining. Quit hitting the crack pipe.
#1: Copenhagen is amazing.
#2: Bah! A little rain and pinch of darkness don’t get me excited. What does? NO HEAD-WIND THIS WEEK*! YEAH!!!
*little known fact that I am built for comfort, not for speed.
Nick Allard said there was no rain this morning before I left for my bike commute. I guess heavy ass mist doesn’t count as rain. I got pretty darn wet.
Nichelle, you’re cute and all, and I *love* the outfit, but will you quit mugging for the camera and KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR TRUCKS!
Especially trucks with no drivers.
If that’s the Universal lot, the Invisible Man could be driving, y’know.
Yer right, Todd. I forgot about him. Drat….
As a former Portlander now living in Copenhagen, I can tell you that is the norm here. My husband rides his bicycle in a blizzard without blinking. What helps though, is that as soon as it starts snowing, these little mini snowplows come out and clear the bike lanes, way before the deal with the streets.
Me though – i am a big wimp and won’t ride my bike until the cold stops shearing my face off. That’s what CPH’s brilliant public transport is for.
