Bike parking that attached to the side of buildings that rises like a Ferris wheel:

Bikes are locked to a rack which spins down to street level when someone pedals a stationary bike at the bottom that’s attached to the whole gear system—it’s just an idea still, not a real-life deal.

Though it’s pretty and creative, I think it’s overcomplicated. The good thing about bike parking is it’s super cheap and simple to install; the city’s blue bike “staple” racks cost only $80 and they work great as long as no one saws through them.

  1. South Korea is generally a very law-abiding country (the concept was devised for use in Seoul) but in just about any U.S. city (even ours) I think the thing would be vandalized pretty quickly, of just serve as a smorgasbord of bikes to steal.

  2. There it is, the rare Todd Mecklem typo. Note the time, though, 7:06 AM; typos made after midnight and before 8 AM only count as half a demerit.
