Okay, so Jeff Goldblum is definitely—or at least, most likely—not drunk in this ad for Paypal. HOWEVER! When you slow it down ever so slightly as this guy did, he sounds super-duper drunk… and actually, a lot more likable. I’d hang out with this drunk. (Maybe I’ll go as Drunk Jeff Goldblum for Halloween?)

Snoop, Hot Pockets, and the Greatest Musical Moment of 2012
The national nightmare that was Snoop Lion’s foray into reggae has ended! With this, a new track and video entitled “Pocket Like It’s Hot,” in which Snoop (yes, he’s still Snoop Lion) along with DeStorm Power, Andy Milonakis, Brodus Clay, and a newcomer named Herbie Hot Pockets—don’t worry, you’ll recognize him when you see him—all […]
Lindy West at Back Fence: “I Can’t Divorce the Internet”
This video of the hilarious Lindy West at the recent Back Fence, PDX—talking about her relationship to the internet and internet trolls—is wonderful: WORKING FOR THE INTERNET IS WEIRD, DUDES. This piece is pretty great. I’ve never received one-hundredth the scrutiny Lindy has, and I’m pretty sure I couldn’t handle it—even being called a cunt […]

I Met Special Agent Dale Cooper! Or, Marjorie and I Went to the Portlandia Press Junket
Look, no one is being creepy in this photo, okay. Things are very above board. COURTNEY FERGUSON: Marjorie and I went to the Portlandia press junket yesterday. Whatever. But guys, Portlandia Mayor Kyle MacLachlan was there!!!!! This event was the culmination of 20 years of dreaming and wishing and hoping and praying that one day […]
IS RYAN GOSLING IN PORTLAND?!?!?!?!11?J5$
The always-reliable Twitter machine suggests he might be! (This is significantly more interesting than the news that Chloe Sevigny is in town, in that it is slightly interesting.) If YOU see Ryan Gosling in town, sneak up behind him real quiet-like and then get right up to his ear and read him my Drive review […]
Woo Hoo! Dead Alive Is Tonight!
I know Alison already mentioned this in It’s Happening Tonight, but this is super duper important. My second favoritest movie of all time, Dead Alive, is playing tonight! It’s part of the NW Film Center‘s rooftop series, where you can cool down on a roof, reveling in the congealed gore and innards of the bloodiest […]
Today in Very Important Neil Diamond News
To mark the 40th anniversary of Neil Diamond’s Hot August Night—his 1972 double live album in which he spends a lot of time singing to his giant imaginary penis (see image, right)—McMenamins is pulling out all the stops. They’ve got Super Diamond at the Crystal Ballroom on Saturday, August 25, which is great, although that […]
Cute Portland vs. Seattle Chart
I’ve lived in both Seattle and Portland and love both. Why do we need to chose sides? They’re different cities, okay? But, still, I’m glad to share this cute rundown comparing the frenemies. It’s made, of course, by a Portlander. Browse more data visualizations.
Lena Dunham’s Remembrance of Nora Ephron Is Absolutely Great.
Lena Dunham remembers Nora Ephron in a moving, generous piece in the New Yorker: Over the course of our year-and-a-half-long friendship, Nora introduced me to, in no particular order: Several ear, nose, and throat doctors; the Patagonia jackets she favored when on set because they were “thinner than a sweater but warmer than a parka”; […]
Today in Vampire Romance: Once Burned
I’ve never been very interested in vampire romance—UNTIL NOW! Here’s a promotional clip from the new romance novel Once Burned—Book one of the “Night Prince” series. DROOOOOOL! He’s the Prince of Night…Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one […]
