My roommate’s cat was hit by a car a few weeks ago (RIP Madeline), so she and her girlfriend made a commemorative “ghost cat” for the well-trafficked, very cat-dense stretch of SE Stark where the cat was killed. This is not a very good photo, but I like the idea:

  1. Please, please, please keep pets inside or secured in the backyard so I never have to suffer the misery of killing one of the poor buggers with my car.

  2. I just saw this the other day- I’m so sorry… RIP Madeline. I lost my boy Simon 3 years ago at 46th & Lincoln. You can’t always keep a good cat inside even if you try.

  3. Ugh…I cry every time I see a poor kitty, dead on the side of the road. So, so sorry.

When I drive through residential areas I always scan the sides of the road for darting animals. It’s something that you have to be hyper aware of.

I also believe in not letting your kitties wonder. We cat-proofed the backyard. They make these great aluminum over hangs that secure to your fences so they cannot climb over. We also put plastic cone type things on the stumps of the trees so they can’t use those to escape either. This way our kitties can enjoy chasing bugs and lazying in the sun safely!

  4. I drive by this everyday. I thought it was just for fun. I am sorry for the kitty they lost. I think it is a great way to remind people to look for animals.
