You might as well pour poison in your ears and call it a day. My favorite velvet-voiced newsman is leaving the biz:

Carl Kasell, the famed voice of NPR News for three decades turned comedy star of Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, has announced he’s stepping down this spring after a five-decade career in broadcasting. Kasell will record his final broadcast for Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! this spring; celebration shows are planned in the show’s home city of Chicago, and in Washington, D.C.

He’ll still do the voice-mail prizes for Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, thankfully.

  1. For some reason I thought he had already retired a few years ago. Sad. I probably would’ve kept NPR as my alarm clock station instead of Radio Disney if I had known. Except Kassell’s voice always just made me want to go back to sleep and dream of triangle unicorns under the sea or something.
