Sound of Young America host Jesse Thorn just announced that he’s been working on adapting Marc Maron’s fantastic WTF podcast for a ten-episode public radio series. It’s already been picked up by Chicago’s WBEZ—no word yet on if OBP will be airing it, though they will if they have any interest in growing their audience or attracting younger listeners. (Easy for me to say, I know.)
The first episode is posted on Thorn’s site—it excerpts the WTF interview with Judd Apatow, one of Maron’s best (for bonus charm, it includes footage from interviews that a teenaged Apatow conducted with comedy legends like Gary Shandling). I’ve been a complete Apatow apologist since hearing it—in the full version, Apatow talks about his excitement over Bridesmaids, which I hope you all saw this weekend because it’s charming and great.
In other comedy news, Roseanne Barr’s rant in New York Magazine is tough as hell.
UPDATE: OPB has “no plans at present” to air the show, according to whomever runs their Twitter feed. (Journalism!) Go bug ’em about it.
The Roseanne thing was definitely worth reading, if only for the introduction of the phrase “Bigshit Showbiz Mountain” to my life.
Make it happen, OPB. There’s a great timeslot that’s wide open from 9 am to 10 am on Mondays through Fridays.
If you take the 20 funny minutes from each Judd Apatow movie and string them all together it would be better than any of his movies. He peaked with Freaks and Geeks.
Oh sure, OPB…no plans. Instead, they’ll run “Prairie Home Companion” *twice* on the weekends, or the shit-shows airing on Saturdays and Sundays at 11PM — that Chicago music show or “E-town.”
There’s a lot of dead weight on the OPB schedule, but there’s already an open spot on the schedule; 20:00-21:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Shouldn’t take much work to get Maron in there.

TSW…sure, most of us do download the podcast (and give money!), but it still would be great to get Maron some more exposure. I want the opening to his last album “Final Engagement,” to come true just to see his neurosis kick into overdrive. “Look at me, all happy and shit…”
I’m sure OPB will pick this up…it’d be a REALLY smart programming move since all of you jobless hipsters have TONS of money to contribute during membership drives.
