Update 12 pm, Friday: The “official” release went out, with assurances that this won’t cost the city any more than the current design and that, yes, for now, despite the Chevy in the picture, officers in 2011 will be driving Ford Crown Victorias. New-look cars will be added as the old ones are gradually scrapped and chopped for parts. A better picture of the new design—complete with Twitter handle—is here.
The original: The Portland Police Bureau is planning a big unveil for its new-look cruisers on Facebook tomorrow, but the Oregonian has tomorrow’s news today. And I’ve shamelessly re-posted it here, so that way I can save Blogtown’s finest the trip. Thank me some other time.

- Portland Police Bureau
Thoughts? Love? Brickbats? Eh…

They should look more like the Batmobile.
You left out the best part: “The plan calls for including the bureau’s twitter address on the rear side panel: @portlandpolice.”
…which is good, since the city’s new 911 system is evidently FUBAR.
@portlandpolice #armedrobbery in progress
Better than the current hideous paint scheme, fo sho!
You can’t park there!
Every new system is FUBAR, according to the oldschool police chiefs who have to ask their teenage kids how to send a text message.
Sworn to protect. Dedicated to serve. Screw it, we’ll just shoot you instead.
will they issue little stickers that look like a mentally ill person for the cops to put on the front quarter panel every time they execute one? I hear Chris Humphrey’s is gunning for the coveted Homeless Person Blue Max medal, just like George Peppard!
You can’t park that thing there.
Toyota Camry’s? SCARY!!!!
Whoops, stole Marg’s comment without looking. Arrest me!
This is god awful. I want a police vehicle that better encapsulates our excellent city. I want Vespa’s equipped with taser launchers.
What the fuck kind of car is that? Aren’t they finally starting to replace the old Vics with Chargers? What is the point of this?
What will they do with the old ones?
Are they for sale?
Does the tinted windows serve a purpose?
When they open the door, the side of the car will say “D POLICE”
I am going to start calling them DEE POLICE from now on.
