Next weekend Portland hosts the inaugural Women & Beer Conference. Organized by Barley’s Angels, whose mission is to serve “women who seek a comfortable environment to explore and learn about Craft Beer,” the two-day event is aimed at industry professionals and social drinkers (it’s probably good for professional drinkers, too). It features a series of demonstrations and educational sessions and there’s also a tour of Rogue Hop Farms. The Beer-Con will also be used to launch Barley’s Angels partnership with Green Flash Brewing to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Oh, and there should be plenty of beer to try.

The highlights include:

– Saturday 13th: Jackie Dodd (author of the Craft Beer Cookbook and known as the Beeroness) demonstrates how to cook with craft beer, there’s a ‘palette trip’, which pairs different food flavors with various beer styles, while Nick Mallory (the marketing guy at Rogue) explains how glassware has an affect on beer. There’s also a session on tips and tricks for creating successful beer events and publisher and editor Gail Oberst talks about how to establish relationships with the press. The Barrel Room at Green Dragon Bistro and Pub, 928 SE 9th Ave, $65 (including beer and food featured for each session), 10 am-6 pm, tickets available here

– Sunday 14th: A day field trip to Rogue Hop Farm in Independence, visiting the hop yard, harvesting facilities and brewery. Transport, a beer flight and appertizer are provided. Meet at the Green Dragon, 9 am-3:30 pm, $20, tickets available here (at the time of writing, only eight seats were left)
