not actual “red cricket”

Holy shit! The weather is so delectable today, I can barely stand it. In fact, I feel so good about this particularly stunning atmospheric change that I am going to give you, Blogtownies, a summer cocktail recipe that I created just a few weeks ago. Its working title is “red cricket,” but if you make one for yourself this weekend, post a name suggestion and I might make it a Monday poll.

It takes a bit of time to make and I’m lazy enough that I usually only drink one before ditching the shaker and going for straight shots. But that first one is summer in a rocks glass, my friends, if I do say so myself. And HA, I do!

Behold:

“red cricket”
4 oz vodka (I prefer House Spirits Medoyeff, but I made it with Stoli last night to great effect)
3 large strawberries
2 1/2 cucumber rounds
4 large mint leaves
1 oz lemon juice
Cricket green tea cola to finish

In a shaker, muddle strawberries, cucumber rounds and mint. Add lemon juice and vodka, fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15 second. Strain over ice in a rocks glass. Top off with Cricket cola. Garnish to your whim. Tilt the elbow.

The best thing about this cocktail is that it’s fizzy, fresh and most of the ingredients are easily found in Portland farmers markets right now. Cricket cola can be found at New Seasons.

Enjoy! And don’t say I never gave you nuthin! If you e-mail me your summer cocktail recipes and a photo, I’ll post any good ones. The boozy the better.

  1. Great recipe, Patrick!

One suggestion… have you tried Dry Soda at all? It’s available at Whole Foods, Pastaworks, Elephants, etc… comes in lemongrass, kumquat, and other DELICIOSU flavors.

  2. Almost as good as a new drink called the Lindsey Lohan… It’s made just like a “red headed slut” but you add a splash of coke.
