Running for office while you are working and also pretty much running your own campaign is a nearly impossible task. I know. I tried. It sucked.
for her full statement, please visit robertaphillip.net.
it was a hell of an honor for me to work on her campaign, to get to know her as a person and to become her friend. i’m totally supportive of her decision; Chair Jeff Cogen is biden lucky that Ted Wheeler hired Roberta. she’s going to make Jeff look awesome!
her willingness to set aside personal ambition for something “higher” — public service out of the limelight — leaves me even more impressed with her. and more grateful i got to have a small part in this campaign.
Having known Roberta her whole life, she has always made her dad and me proud. She makes decisions from a place of doing the most good for the most people and has a heart for the underserved. This withdrawal from the commissioner’s race fits right into that mold. I know that she will continue in that vein and she will have the full support of her family, friends and the circle of wonderful people who have been drawn to her in Portland.
But she does not get her $50 back, as Ted and I did.
