SALTZMAN: FINALLY FILED THIS MORNING

UPDATE: DAN SALTZMAN WILL BE COMING, says his campaign manger. FANTASTIC.

In surprise of the year, reticent police commissioner Dan Saltzman has finally filed for reelection this morning. We’ve invited Saltzman, along with the other 6 candidates for his seat, to our Candidate Olympiad on January 28.

So far, Saltzman’s campaign manager, Emerald Bogue, has been iffy about Saltzman’s attendance at the Olympiad. Why, after all, would he need to talk to the voters before running for reelection? Why would he want to discuss issues of environmental, transportation, and police accountability? With you…the public?

Totally, I can see that by sharing a bobsled with his publicly financed opponents, Saltzman might legitimize some of their criticism of him. He might also legitimize the publicly financed elections process, too, having handily defeated Amanda Fritz in the last election by outspending her at the last minute.

Still, Bogue hasn’t actually said “no” on Saltzman’s behalf just yet. Here’s hoping:
