These are the sorts of things that remind you politics affects real people. After President Obama’s speech in Ohio today, a woman named Stephanie Miller approached him on the rope line to thank him for Obamacare. She almost immediately started crying:
Miller said her sister passed away from colon cancer four years ago — partly because she could not purchase health insurance.
“Even after she was diagnosed with cancer, she was told her income was too high for Medicaid,” Miller said.
You can see the AP’s photo of President Obama embracing Miller over at ThinkProgress. Amid all the handshaking and sign waving, it’s a genuine, moving moment. The health care debate is not just a football for blowhards; it has real consequences for real human beings.

Woah you weren’t kidding:
“SpideyTerry commented:
As someone who lost a mother to Ovarian cancer, I take this with a massive grain of salt.
And to be honest, if it is true, I find it very insulting. You wanna voice your opinion? Fine, but don’t drag the dead into it. That’s a pathetic debating tactic designed to keep people from disagreeing with you.”
Wow!
Ricky Bobby: You sick, sons of bitches. I mean you walk in that door, on your two legs… all fat and cocky and lookin at me in my chair. And you tell me its all in my head? I hope that both of you have sons… Handsome, beautiful, articulate sons, who are talented and star athletes and they have their legs taken away. I mean I pray you know that pain and that hurt.
Lucius Washington: [enraged] Don’t you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby! Don’t you put that on us! You are NOT paralyzed!
