Yes, it’s very hilarious that for mayor you wrote in your pet or your roommate or that superhero with a complicated sense of justice, but as The Awl points out, Oregon law prohibits sharing your ballot photos:

(7) A person may not show the persons own marked ballot to another person to reveal how it was marked.

UH OH! 80% of my Instagram feed is IN TROUBLE!!

Alison Hallett served nobly as the Mercury's arts editor from 2008-2014. Her proud legacy lives on.

  1. Just says you cant show your ballot to anyone, does not mention a copy of your ballot. Also this statute prohibits showing your ballot to see how it was marked. It does not prohibit showing your ballot to show that you voted.

  2. The penalty for violating it, as far as I can figure (ORS 260.995) is a fine up to $250, not invalidation. The Secretary of State has administrative rules for figuring out Election Offenses (OAR 165-013-0020), but the particular prohibition is not addressed.

  3. Well “offended hipster” I am not here to befriend the likes of you. Now get back on your I Phone and be sure to comment on something really “artsy” or “cutting edge”. Make sure its really obscure so only you and one other douchebag know about it. Tool.
