Elizabeth Warren and Sandra Fluke both gave surprising speeches. Warren’s was a terrific progressive speech that reclaimed liberal values in prime time television. Hopefully, her speech will give her a bump over Scott Brown in the senatorial race in Massachusetts:

And Fluke was exactly as she was when I saw her a couple days ago: She comes across as passionate, genuine, friendly, and unpolished in just the right way. I predict it won’t be long before she wins elected office somewhere soon; Rush Limbaugh may have created a liberal monster.

But both of those speeches were overwhelmed by Bill Clinton’s speech, which was a total rock star performance. I’ve never seen Clinton speak in person before; he uses facts and figures the way a musician plays an instrument. He eats up the audience’s devotion and pays it back with his attention. There were more facts and figures in his speech than in the entire three days of last week’s RNC. I have a clear view of his teleprompter, and so I watched him stray from the script to add digression after digression before wandering back to the point he strayed from. It was seamless, wonky work, and a reminder of how much America loved him back in the 90s. And he continued the trend of headline speakers bringing their best stuff. President Obama is a highly competitive person, and he now understands that he has to deliver one of the best speeches of his life tomorrow night. If he does, he’ll have Clinton’s superlative performance to thank for that. Watch it after the jump.

  1. Keep smokin’ that Democratic pole, Paul.

Hey, is Warren still playing Cowboys and Indians?

If Fluke wants to fuck someone, she can be a big girl and pay for her own contraception. Or her rich boyfriend.

Bill. Billy. Billster. Shit, man. One of the greatest presidents ever has to go to bat for these corrupt fuckers. Their own party is so divided that they can’t even agree on religion in the official platform. A house divided, indeed. These are the seeds of abject failure. One more term to figure it out? Fuck that. Take your one-term ego-stroke and fuck off already.

  2. True Clinton story…

In the summer of 1995, I was one of those crazy college kids who spent a summer working as a canvasser for OSPIRG. I know, I know. Anyway, the campaign that summer and the following year was expansion of the bottle bill. The next year, I’m back at college in Ohio, and I go see Clinton give a big outdoor speech at the OSU campus in Columbus. After the speech, he’s walking the front row of the crowd, shaking hands, etc. I happen to be in the front, I’m wearing an OSPIRG shirt, and as he comes by, he takes one glance at my shirt, and immediately says, “how’s the bottle bill going?” Dude is president, dealing with actual big time presidential issues, he’s from Arkansas, we’re in Ohio, thousands of people are crowding him, and it the drop of a hat, he can reference what little ol’ local OSPIRG is up to. Kind of crazy. I can barely remember my bank PIN most days. Small, mostly meaningless story, but just goes to the reference about his grasp of facts and figures.

  3. Just wait until your failed ideology crashes the U.S. economy. Then maybe you can talk to me about nuts. I’ll be here to remind every last one of you.

  4. “If Fluke wants to fuck someone, she can be a big girl and pay for her own contraception. Or her rich boyfriend.”

Just wait until your wife sees the way that you talk about young women. Sorry fucking asshole.

  5. Still no recovery, D&W? That happened 3 1/2 years ago. Bout you don’t want to hear that. You want to make excuse for a failed president. Obama could have done more to work with Republicans. Instead, he was a pigheaded ideologue who could care less about our country as long he satisfies his own special interest groups. Fuck him and his campaign of bullshit. W. has been gone a long while. Plenty of opportunity to correct the issues. He didn’t. So now he relies on people like you to distort the truth in order to give him another shot at further wrecking our country until we have lost superpower status completely.

That isn’t acceptable. People deserve to know the truth about Obama and his lying campaign. He promised hope and change and didn’t deliver. He promised to unite us all. Instead, we are now more divided than ever. He promised to improve our economy. He failed.

All across the board failure. Time to vote for someone else.

  6. Wow. Whatever gets you by. You might want to get tested regularly with an attitude like that. And try a little self-control. Hope that helps.

  7. So who ya voting for stjohns?

I kind of hope your voting for a third party candidate; but if your just voting for Romney; you’re just the same as those liberals you despise so much.
