Friends, this week is packed with free and awesome events around Portland. I wouldn’t even know what to do with money if I had it (lie).

First of all, though I think it should be free all the time, the state historical museum is only free one day a year. That day has come. It’s this Saturday, April 17. If you get bored of learning about 100 years of Pendleton Round-Up history (yeehaw!) stick around till 1PM because mafia-busting Attorney General John Kroger is giving a free talk.

Also coming up: a panel discussion about food and environmentalism at the Portland Building on Saturday. The state bike polo championships. A history pub entitled “40¢ a Day is What Makes Prostitutes”. Um, yes, yes and yes. Check out all these local political and nerdy events on our community calendar.

Sarah Shay Mirk reported on transportation, sex and gender issues, and politics at the Mercury from 2008-2013. They have gone on to make many things, including countless comics and several books.
