FRIDAY, JANUARY 22

COMEDY—Lovers of Portland comedy love Nathan Brannon. Why? Well, besides being proclaimed Portland’s Funniest Person (2012), his political humor is sharp as a Ginsu, and guaranteed to make your sides and brain split. Check out his hilarity in person tonight as he records his latest comedy album for Kill Rock Stars. (Your laughs will be recorded for all eternity!) WM STEVEN HUMPHREY
w/Bri Pruett; Alberta Street Pub, 1036 NE Alberta, 7:30 & 10:30 pm, $12

MUSIC—For more than a decade and a half, singer/songwriter Josh Ritter has been amassing a superb catalog of smart, heartfelt tunes. For two nights, he and his Royal City Band will take over the Rev Hall stage and dig deep into his songbook, playing some old classics along with plenty of new ones from Ritter’s latest, Sermon on the Rocks. NED LANNAMANN
w/Elephant Revival; Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark, Fri & Sat, 8 pm, $35-38

SATURDAY, JANUARY 23

MUSIC—Ty Segall is one prolific mofo. The SoCal garage-rocker is probably recording nine new albums as we speak. He’s cruising through town on the wings of guitar fuzz, mud-flecked classic rock, and Hawkwind-inspired riffage with songs from his new release, Emotional Mugger. I just hope you got tickets—this shit be sold the hell out. COURTNEY FERGUSON
w/CFM, Old Light, the Lavender Flu; Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie, 9 pm, $25-27 (beg, borrow, steal)

DANCE PARTY—Holocene correctly calls tonight’s dance party, RNB, a tribute to “the Holy Trinity”—you know, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Beyoncé. Put on those dancing shoes and prepare thyself by revisiting Nicki and Yoncé’s “Feeling Myself,” (Nicki says “laserrrrrrrrrrrr” like no one else) and Rihanna’s essential “Bitch Better Have My Money.” The night is still young. And so are we! MEGAN BURBANK
Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, 9 pm, $10

SUNDAY, JANUARY 24

MUSIC—This is smart, sparkly Northwest pop, like Pop Rocks fizzing in a glass of Orange Crush. Seattle’s Childbirth is funny, insightful garage-rock, and they kick serious ass. Plus the self-proclaimed ruler of “Trapper Keeper pop-punk” Lisa Prank (AKA Robin Edwards) is as full of rainbow unicorn sparkle farts as you’d think based on the name. This lineup is so, so good. COURTNEY FERGUSON
w/Mini Blinds; Bunk Bar, 1028 SE Water, 9:30 pm, $8

DOG SHOW—Dogs representing more than 175 breeds will compete in obedience, rally, and agility competitions as well as standing there and looking pretty at the Rose City Classic Dog Show. It’s a five-day event, and Sunday attendees can visit the Meet the Breeds booth. SHELBY R. KING
Portland Expo Center, 2060 N Marine, Wed-Sun, 8 am-6 pm, $10, all ages
