Have you checked out the Mercury's massive Happy Hour guide on the streets this week? There are almost 80 suggestions of great places to eat and drink on the cheap—but we also asked many of Portland's food and entertainment industry professionals to weigh in with their favorites, which we'll be sharing with you from now until we run out of 'em. Because... knowledge! Here are some great opinions from today's industry pros.

Your name and job title?
Kate Monroe; proprietor SE Wine Collective, Owner/Winemaker Division Winemaking Company.

What is your favorite happy hour? Why?
Late night @ the Victory. Gruyere Spatzle and a Manhattan... need I say more?

Is it classy or trashy? Why?
I'm not sure by that point in the evening!

What about your secret, guilty-pleasure happy hour? (I’m thinking you actually kinda dig the never-ending mozzarella sticks at Applebee’s. Go ahead, let it out here.)
Wait... they have never-ending mozzarella sticks at Applebee's? Where have I been???

Afternoon or late night happy hours?
Game for both.

Should all happy hours be legally required to give out free Miller High Life?
In cans preferably.

What food must be served at all happy hours?
Is beer considered a food group yet?

Kids at happy hour: yay or nay? What about dogs?
Nay on kids, dogs are a plus.

Your name and job title?
Ezra Johnson-Greenough; publisher of The New School, Organizer of the Portland Fruit Beer Festival

What is your drop-dead favorite happy hour? Why?
$2.50 pints all day Tuesday at Lompoc Hedge House and the nachos for $4 from 4-6pm every day. Why? Because $2.50 pints of local craft beer are unheard of these days, and I love Hedge House. Lompoc HH feels like visiting a friend's house rather than going out to a bar. Perhaps that's because it's actually located in a cozy inner southeast Bungalow home, where you can sit on the front porch or grassy lawn with a dog and a beer.

Is it classy or trashy? Why?
Lompoc Hedge House's happy hour reminds me of a time before Portlandia hipsters when $4 craft beers were the norm at any hour and $2.50 was standard happy hour pricing. I call it the golden years of the aughts'—but really it was my early twenties.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

What about your secret, guilty-pleasure happy hour?
Zach's Shack on Hawthorne. First stuff your face with a Sport Pepper laden Zach's Favorite hot dog and follow it up with some Cheddar and Jalapeno topped Fries while watching old concert videos or a Blazers game. Wash 'em down with a $3.50 pint of craft beer ($1 off HH). Just dont expect to get a good nigh'ts sleep, because you will be tossing and turning from a serious case of heartburn.

Afternoon or late night happy hours?
Late night Happy Hour at East Glisan Pizza Lounge from 10pm to midnight for $1 New York style cheese slices or $3 for two fresh baked soft and chewy Pizza Rolls—but good luck stopping at just 2.

Should all happy hours be legally required to give out free Miller High Life?
More like an Upright Brewing Engelberg Pilsner.

What food must be served at all happy hours?
Beer is Food.

Kids at happy hour: yay or nay? What about dogs?
I will take a pass on the kids and a yay on the dogs.
