Yep, cookies for free. And not just any old, run-of-the mill cookie, but pizzelle, which are marvelous Italian waffle cookies with a history that dates back to ancient Rome. The occasion is the grand opening tomorrow of a new food cart called Tired & Pour—perhaps it’s a play on the lines from the sonnet The New Colossus (“Give me your tired, your poor,” etc), or perhaps it’s a reflection of the owners’ existential condition. Either way, the handsome-looking pizzelle are handmade and come in a variety of flavors, including anise, toasted coconut, peanut butter and bacon maple. Tired & Pour will be offering a free one for every customer from 10 am tomorrow. Should you happen to become addicted you can buy packets of them, and even order online (here).
