…Gleaned from my in-box. Prepared with love, for you.

Smokin’ at Foster Burger

Those of you who are still slave to the cigarette pack will be happy to know new Southeast Portland gourmet burger joint Foster Burger [5339 SE Foster] has opened up a 60 seat, covered, heated smoking patio. Now you can finally take drags between bites of your burger without having to be outside at someone’s lame barbecue.

Portobello Moving

Everyone’s favorite vegan trattoria will be moving their all-veg Italian goodness out of Cellar Door Coffee where they’ve been working nights for the last year or so. But they’re not going far. They’ll take up residence in their new space at SE 12th and Division some time in May, with more space to cook and prep and serve. Look for Neapolitan pizza and cocktails at the new Portobello digs.

Upright at PSU Farmers Market

Here’s something to pine for over the next week: Upright Brewing has been announced as one of 19 new vendors to be added to the expanded PSU Farmers Market. The brewery will be selling their beers in 750ml bottles, and I can only assume that means they’ll be offering samples (I hope). The Portland Farmers Market season kicks of at PSU NEXT SATURDAY, March 20th (squeeeeee!). Check out this link for a map and a list of vendors at the newly enlarged PSU market.

Steve’s Cheese Bar

Steve Jones, currently Portland’s most popular cheesemonger, has moved his wares from his previous location in a Northwest Portland wine shop to a new joint at 61st and Belmont, known henceforth as Cheese Bar. The shop is packed with cheese (natch), meat from Olympic Provisions, and various specialty gourmet sundries. Stop in for a stinky cheese sammy.

Happy Birthday Biwa!

The celebration takes place today at 215 Southeast 9th:

From 5:00 until midnight we will be serving the much lauded โ€œBiwa Hamburger,โ€ a serendipitous meeting of ground beef, chasyu pork and kimchi mayo, and reminiscing with some of our favorite people (you all!) about these great last three years!

Consider yourself informed. And if you have any hot tips or gossip from the land of PDX food, send us an e-mail!

  1. That Foster Burger patio is exciting news. Not because of the smoking, but because they didn’t have nearly enough seats. Place filled up way too fast and had too long of a wait on the weekends.

  2. Great news about upright brewing at saturday market!

You should mention that Cheese Bar has a wonderfully curated selection of craft beer in the cafe. Looks like 6 taps, and maybe 60 bottles? I had an upright dry hopped four on tap there last week. Great place, but weird watching people being brought into the hospital across the street on stretchers all day.

12th and division is getting really solid for food and drink. Los Gorditos, Beermongers, Genies, now portobello, and in a few months Apex?!? Awesome.

Apex is letting in all outside food too, so you can bring in portobello or los gorditos. Sweet.
