Like that crazy ex-girlfriend with the meth addiction that actually makes her even more dangerously appealing, the debut trailer for Civilization V has appeared, promising to ruin any constructive life plans you may have for the next couple years.

My one complaint with this clip — aside from the knowledge that I’m going to lose far too much of my life to this game even if it’s terrible — is the palpable lack of Leonard Nimoy. Civ IV proved that nothing elucidates the sense of wonder in being the first person to invent the printing press, the Gatling gun or Internet pornography like the vocal stylings of the only Vulcan in history to write poetry about hobbits.

Civilization V is tentatively scheduled for release on Windows this fall.
