According to ThinkProgress, Al Gore apparently lost his temper last week at the Aspen Institute when talking about climate change deniers. Here’s audio:
This is great! This makes me very happy. But Gore needs to get that passionate when he knows cameras are on him. Preaching angrily to the choir is fine, but treating climate change deniers politely isn’t going to make them go away. He needs to bring this anger to the public.
Really, he doesn’t need anger. He only needs facts.
How could this man seem mentally stable to anyone?
Progressives need more firebrands. But how to get out of soundbite policy discussion is the real issue, understanding science too.
We need to remove the word “debate” when discussing issues like global climate change and evolutionary science. There is no widespread debate among most scientists and peer-reviewed research journals.
The general public is being fooled by politicians, corporations, and even well-intentioned activists and journalists who use vague, non-specific language like “green” and “sustainability”, words which hold little meaning for most people. We need to win the semantic war before we can start making significant changes in our modern lifestyle.
Most people only get it if they see something they really need go away. You almost have to take these non-thinkers to the most affected regions and say, “See?!”. Then, they’ll still be in denial.
You can do more as president than as a powerpoint junkie. Too bad he didn’t call bullshit in 2000.
