Loud enough to drown out enthusiasm for the environment

Frito-Lay has announced they’re no longer going to package Sun Chips in those unbearably loud compostable bags.

Thank Krishna.

I do care about the environment — almost as much as Osama bin Laden does — but like any real American, I only like sustainability that comes in green paper boxes with names like “Bio-Clean” or “Eco-Enema.” Once sustainability starts imposing on my right to eat quietly, it’s gone far enough. I applaud the Frito-Lay company for showing mercy to its desperate consumers, and getting rid of those deafening bags. Those Sun Chips were so loud; I couldn’t even hear the Fleet Foxes pumping from the MacBook in my hemp man-purse.

  1. Yeah…I bet they were so loud you couldn’t even hear the Fleet Foxes pumping from your MacBook in your hemp man-purse……wait….dammit….

  2. You know “compostable” bags are not really compostable, right? They’re made from plastic beads held together by cornstarch. They are biodegradable – they do break down pretty fast – but they’re not organic. Those stupid plastic beads last forever.

  3. I think that this is the best post I’ve read on blogtown in the last 12-18 months. The caption on the picture is the cherry on top of the sundae. Thanks for the lulz.

  4. Also, y’know, most people just threw these bags away anyway (I doubt very many people buried them in their backyards hoping for a sunchip tree) and so they degraded in an anaerobic environment of the landfill, which releases methane rather than carbon dioxide (methane is roughly 20x more efficient at trapping heat than CO2).
This is probably a good switch.

  5. I have saved all mine to pass out at Mercury parties as noise makers. I also found them very hand at City Council meetings whenever they see me with my sunchips I get to talk first.

  6. Not to be a stickler here, but isn’t eating chips a loud activity anyway? Who cares if the bag is noisy, too? CRUUUUNCH.
