Cameron Whitten, now on Day 22 of a housing-justice-themed hunger strike outside city hall, texted me late last night to say he wound up as a discussion topic on this terrible and strange internet rabbit hole of white-pride hate. This morning, I was pointed to an Occupy Portland Media Collective video in which Whitten shares his thoughts about his discovery:
“That’s racist.”
But beyond calling out racists, the video also supplies a concise re-statement of Whitten’s aims—a good way to take some sour lemons and turn them into some kind of lemonade. (Which, technically, Whitten could still consume and enjoy.)
This rain isn’t making it any easier to not feel miserable. I think I need some more coffee before braving another day of gloomy headlines and writing up Good Morning, News. Ugh.

It takes a certain variety of Stupid to post on your website’s homepage that “all races are welcome,” except for -y’know- one of them. The one that is the sole topic of discussion, that is.
The best part of these people is that they hide behind hoods because the conviction of their beliefs are so strong that they are not willing stand behind them as a person.
Which fully demonstrates how fucking weak they are. Grow a pair or STFU.
Pretty goddamned sad, but also – not at all surprising. This just goes to show you just how utterly down-right GROSS some White people can be.
I bet if Cameron had been a White tea-bagging freak who stood in front of City Hall every day for a month holding up some tacky-ass sign accusing Adams of being a “pedophile liberal Jewish puppet”, these same WP dipshits would be cheering him on as a “true patriot”.
As it stands, many people already call Adams all these things. You can most often find them on OregonLive and Fox12 online.
Racism splinters Labor, it is an ‘inflationary’ act.
This is not just stupid. This racism is a part of a larger racist, right wing movement that must be examined, understood and fought. I appreciate Cameron’s commitment to housing as a human right and will make a point to go down there to stand in solidarity.
The pictures of time and space are rearranged,
In this little piece of typical tragedy.
> giving attention to racist nutters
Thanks so very much for standing up for those of us who loose our homes to foreclosure. After 34 years of homeownership I am a renter barely keeping from homelessness. We need jobs! We need this moritorium on foreclosures! 5th Dist. Rep. Schrader called for one in Congress 2 years ago, but they were not listening….how many must loose their homes before the political backbone stiffens enough to say NO MORE! You go, Cameron. God bless you.
