Bikers – don’t take up an entire lane on Hawthorne during rush hour or you’re going to get yourself or someone else injured. Please and Thank You.

  1. Seriously, the bikeway is exactly two blocks over, but I don’t put this solely on the cyclists. Businesses and the city have always put racks on Hawthorne, and it leads people to believe “hey, I can bike there.” Considering how narrow the lanes are, it’s uncomfortable in a car half the time. Meanwhile, if you’re going to get stuck on Hawthorne on a bike, whole lane is the only way to go. You WILL get killed splitting lanes or waiting to be doored.

  2. Salmon street IS the designated bike route from 39th down to 11th. Many bike riders worked hard many, many years ago to get that designation. Please use it. Or go to Lincoln. Bikes don’t get Evy single street. They don’t pay gas tax, they don’t pay registration, or even environmental fees for tire disposal. Use the bike streets,. Lincoln, Clinton, Salmon to commute on. One or two or three blocks on Hawthorne to your friends house is ok. But not 27th to 11th. Otherwise you might get hurt or killed.
