A jury sitting in Pendleton, Oregon found the Hammonds guilty of arson after a two-week trial in June 2012. By LAW, arson on Federal land carries a five-year mandatory minimum sentence. When the Hammonds were originally sentenced, they argued that the five-year mandatory minimum terms were unconstitutional and the trial court agreed and imposed sentences well below what the law required based upon the jury’s verdicts.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, however, upheld the federal law and vacated the original, unlawful sentences and ordered that the Hammonds be resentenced “in compliance with the law.”
So, these “patriotic” morons should blame the goddamn court for not following THE LAW and giving the Hammonds the MINIMUM 5 year sentence that their conviction constituted. Sorry fellas, if you don’t like the law, do what you can to change it. Don’t grab yer guns after conversing with voices in your head (God) and take over a Federal building.

FACT: The Hammonds have disavowed what Lil’ Bundy and his band of misfits are a’doin.
FACT: Federal land in the West has always been in Federal hands… well, except when it was Native American land.
FACT: The LAW states that the minimum sentence for arson on Federal land is FIVE YEARS. The Hammonds got two years and were re-sentenced because the courts fucked up and didn’t give them the MINIMUM.
