I just spent the last 20 minutes crying over the very hurtful and cruel comments left on this and other sites regarding the Hazelnut Grove situation. You people can be so mean, so heartless and so cold. The situation is simple, from my perspective: Humans in need. Give them what they need. It’s plain and simple. For some of you to bring politics into this, for some to bring up choices, for MOST to bring up the trials and tribulations of these poor souls is just horrendous. I really don’t know how you can sleep at night. I’m a loving individual, I pay my taxes, I feed the birds, I have a garden and I love all my brothers and sisters of this human race. How dare any of you suggest that we push these people off the free land that we ALL pay for. I will happily pay more taxes, donate what I can, sell my unneeded household items, to give these humans a SAFE place to live. Your mothers would all be ashamed of how mean and cruel you’re all being. SHAME ON YOU ALL! Peace and Love, Gina H. -Overlook Resident

  1. I/A,Gina H., I feel bad that you feel this way. This site attracts all kinds for various reasons. It is not a fact we are all mean and hateful. I read the Mercury Blog to get my news ,and I am touched by the support for the homeless. Some of the commenters say things for comedic reasons; we are sometimes letting off steam and really don’t mean to be personal. Try looking back at the Blogtown news of the day,you may find the views are supportive of helping the homeless. Most people here will be the first to stand up for those less fortunate. Anyway, being anonymous for most of us, is just a chance to be funny. We can be very nice and loving, and have proven so by some of the rants that are very, very, sad. Not the best reply, but a peace offering just the same.

  2. Well, good for you GinaH. Pat yourself on the back because of all that caring empathy that you obviously have in spades.
Me, I’ll still assert that capable people should not be living off the generosity of others, and should actually work and contribute to society.

  3. Shame back at you, Gina. You may want to coddle junkies, and put up with the litter, but that is your little trip. Feel free to be used by tweakers. As for me, I will stand up for the rights of working people to not live next to a shanty town with ex-cons.

I sleep quite well, having worked for my abode. My mother worked hard too, and would feel no shame at my position that some homeless deserve our help and some deserve a wet sleeping bag.

BTW- saying “peace and love” to people you have attempted to shame is ridiculous.

  4. Shame back at you for not supporting your neighbors who work and don’t want a shanty town full of junkies and felons next door to them. Shame back at you for not educating yourself about PDX’s lifestyle homeless and how your misplaced guilt makes things worse in Portland.

  5. Dear Gina: here’s a “fuck you” for the road. Keep it in your breast pocket, warm and cozy, for the day that this shitty, dirty-needle camp plagues it way over to my modest, blue collar neighborhood.

And here’s another FUCK YOU for signing your rant and completely missing the point of something called “I, Anonymous”

  6. Put your money where your mouth is Gina H. and allow these campers onto your residential property so Hazelnut Grove can be vacated temporarily. So it can be cleaned up a bit and order restored while rules are established so the neighbors will be appeased. No? You want to do everything but what the people complaining about the situation actually want? Then let me play you a song on the worlds smallest violin…

  7. Gina, go give them all some of your homemade quinoa salad and your Oregon Trail card and STFU.

And WTF are you talking about all the “Free” land we all pay for? Did you even think that statement through?

However, I am willing to “Overlook” your stupid rant.

  8. This place is pretty nice. Because nobody has said the truth about Gina; the bitch is some Catholic housewife that’s never worked a day in her life except for the days she performed fellatio.

  9. I’m all for helping the homeless make a better life for themselves, but my patience has run out with all the bike thieves and other petty criminals using the homeless camps as bases for their criminal activities.

  10. Humans in need?! For sure. The humans you refer to figure they need dope and booze more than anything in their lives. They might need shelter, but they reeeelly need a jolt and will get to that shelter thing later.
