Last night at the 6:30 showing of “Spotlight,” at a venerated non-profit movie theater in the Hollywood district. My girlfriend and I were sitting to the right of you and your wife. People behind you were eating popcorn. Mid-way through the movie, you’d had enough, apparently, and threw a bitch fit. This is all too common in Portland. Never seen it anywhere else, actually. People throwing tantrums at movies because people are “eating popcorn too loudly,” or getting up to use the restroom, or ocassionally whispering something to the person beside them. You’re such a sanctimonious piece of garbage. You’re more of a distraction than the people you decide to publicly admonish for doing things that ONE IS ALLOWED TO DO AT A MOVIE. Next time, how’s about you shut your white devil mouth and not ruin the movie for the rest of us?

  1. Agree with IA. its a movie – not a sermon delivered by the pope on his deathbed. While a full feature, outside-voice commentary is inconsiderate, some good old fashioned popcorn eating and the occasional whispered comment is quite accepted. You are in public. I love it when the hero wins and everyone in the theater erupts in cheers! Its a social event dumbass. Do you also chide people for cheering at a sports game?? If you want to forget that there are other human beings in the world then fucking stay home and watch the boot leg on your earbuds.

  2. I’m with you I/A except for the “I’ve never seen this anywhere but Portland”, bullcrap. I was in a theater in Cicero, Il. when folks started shooting at each other over chit chatting during the movie. One time in Tokoyo the whole audience started screaming at each other. Couldn’t understand a word, but it was hilarious until the ushers had to come in with billyclubs. Portland is unique in many ways, but not for that. Stop being a Portland hater for the New Year. In Brussels Yo Yo Ma once told the crowd before a concert, “I don’t mind if you all wanna jabber amongst yourselves during this boring cello music”.

  3. I’ve never seen that in Portland, where people would typically just quietly stew throughout the movie over something incredibly petty then come bitch about it on I,Anon.

  4. Agreed that it’s dumb to throw a fit. However, why would anyone cheer at or applaud a movie? The actors can’t hear you, dumbasses.

I’d be kind of annoyed if a bunch of nerds started hootin’ and hollerin’ ever time Colonel Spock hit Dark Vader with his glow stick.

  5. It’s especially ridiculous when people are like that at Grindhouse night at the Hollywood. I mean, those movies were originally screened in front of crowds of screaming drunken partiers and teenagers at the drive-in.. come on.
