I hate that it bums people out that I don’t like Christmas, so I pretend that there is some teeny-tiny little thing that makes it special somehow, like my heart will grow three times with just the right combination of cinnamon-clove scented Glade and a slowly dying pine in the living room. I was horribly and relentlessly abused throughout my childhood and Christmas is when the nightmare would go into overdrive, so all I’d like to do is get blackout drunk and pretend it doesn’t exist. So, yeah. I’m not super into Christmas and it would be nice if I could politely say so without people acting like I just broke a kitten in half.

  1. I/A, I feel bad you were abused as a child. I know Holidays can really trigger depression. I was a very young man, when I was in Vietnam during the 1968 Christmas attack that over ran our base. I had to quit drinking 30 years ago. I hope the season flies by, and you find peace. Child abuse is just the worst.

  2. I hate Christmas because doing so makes me edgy and countercultural. You can tell I’m from Old Portland because Nu Portland loves xmas ironically.

  3. what a bunch of soap opera losers. it’s cool to hate xmas, guys, that’s why you do. WahWahWah. I was raped as a child, and I get black out drunk every day. Don’t want your cherished sympathy either. But I love Thanksgiving. I love Valentines Day. No wait, I hate it because it’s the in thing to do.
