For me, Love doesn’t go away, but it does change and evolve at times. As great as Love is, that doesn’t mean it’s always a comfortable feeling. I’ve found it quite confusing and overwhelming before. Even painful at times. I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly what it is. I wish I could tell you it gets less scary, but it doesn’t. We’ll leave that there.
But, girl, when it’s good, it’s good.
I’m lucky to have Loved some amazing people over the years. Some are still in my life. Some are not. For me, Love is like a thunderstorm. Like, just WOW! It almost sneaks up on you. Faint little drops you don’t even notice, then what’s that on my arm? What’s that patter I’m hearing getting louder?
I remember once having a wonderful lunch with someone, and as I was walking back to where I was staying, I had one of those little thoughts: Hey, what would life be like if…
And then, almost on cue, the heavens opened up on me. Completely out of nowhere. I tried using my jacket as an umbrella, but it was completely useless. I was soaked through in under a minute. The guy walking his dog was probably pretty annoyed with me.
It’s one of those memories that doesn’t go away. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but it felt like a deeply personal message somehow. Like I’d allowed myself to imagine a possibility, and the sky answered.
That’s Love to me. A little thought that becomes a storm before you even realize what’s happening. You can try to prepare for it, protect yourself from it, but sometimes it just comes down all at once.
And when it’s good, you don’t really want to run from it anyway. You just stand there, get completely soaked, and wonder huh?!?
And then I also remember the time I lost a middle school spelling bee because I got nervous and couldn’t spell MICROBURST.—Anonymous
