Mayor Charlie Hales is so proud of “ending veteran homelessness” that he clings to a marked reduction as if “he” did it himself. While I applaud the reduction, it has only happened because of the religious and private organizations that have held out their respective hands to this group of homeless.

I’ve said it a thousand times – homelessness does not discriminate. It doesn’t care if your white, black, man, woman, youth, disabled, veteran, or Winnie the fucking Pooh.

Another week, another homeless death…54 homeless deaths in 2014. YTD – 50 (fifty) homeless deaths. And where are you – in Paris wining and dining with the 1%ers. Jesus, if you do for the climate what you did for the homeless, the Planet is in really big trouble. REAL SENSE OF URGENCY HERE…NOT!!!

And meanwhile the former Sears armory – turned Women’s shelter for 200 – is estimated to be at 10% capacity – T.P.I. is looking for “Volunteer Shuttle drivers”…I think that speaks for itself. Yet another clear and present sign that Portland’s homeless are facing nothing more than the status quo until Charlie Hales is out of office.

    I understand that distance makes a difference, but this indicates that the problem may be less pressing than presented. If you really don’t have something as vital as shelter, I think you could find your way to SW Portland by nightfall to take advantage of this place.

  2. Who really cares about homeless people? Most homeless people can’t or won’t conform to reasonable societal behavior, which is why they are homeless. It was that way a hundred years ago, and it will be that way as long as people can make their own choices. But fight on Don Quixote, nothing wrong with having a big heart.

That womens shelter not filling up is proof homeless don’t want to be institutionalized into prisons a.k.a missions as well as the basic fact that PORTLAND IS SURVIVABLE IN THE WINTER- shelter is not essential and this mayor is no hero. What is more essential is the ability to find safety in numbers / develop a sense of community that can make all the difference- something this mayor demolished beginning with his street sweeps in 2013. This was just his ploy to herd hobos away from downtown and his chummy business folk.

    The real problem is not hobos it is the creepy middle class trying to “help” everyone by shoving them in prisons and ASSUMING that the majority of homeless are like the dirty tweakers hiding in the woods disrespecting the land.

    screw the middle class- most destructive, ignorant, negligent, and entitled group of fucktards on the planet. You got all the power yet you like to play the victim. You conveniently assume your brainwashed american dream of property ownership equates to the natural standard of morality and normalcy but there is nothing normal about you awkward institutionalized folk, and neither are you half as “contributing to society” as you think, you are in fact incredibly wasteful, inefficient, alienated from one another, and destructive to everything- yourselves included.
