I read this article on the CNN website today and thought…. true to an extent, but what about television? TV causes all ages to have a poorer vocabulary and you don’t read much about that… makes sense since I am reading a CNN article but the truth is TV causes poor vocabulary! I know from example. I’ve been watching TV since I was a child. Mom and Dad put me to sleep in front of it. As an adult, my wife and I decided last year to not have cable. We watch shows on Netflix, mainly documentaries or movies. I’ve noticed a big change in my vocabulary and focus. Television is the cause not herb! Take that in you pipe and smoke it world!

  1. Dude, I’m totally chill with your sample-of-one, subjective, anectdotal, uncontrolled, unexperimental results. We should use this technique to debunk all weed research that produces unwelcome findings!

  2. Man, for a humblebrag about your increased vocabulary, you sure don’t deign to show off absolutely any of it in your post.

  3. Is “poorer” even a word? It shouldn’t be. Ugliest word I’ve ever seen. I bet it tastes bad, too. poooor-wrer. pooooor-wrer. Dude, say it. Say it, man. See? That’s soo, fucked UP!

  4. Damn you had me right up until “take that in your pipe and smoke it”. It’s “put that in your pipe and smoke it”, moron! Using big words doesn’t make you smart. Anyway we all know TV makes you stupid. And weed might reduce your vocabulary but what good is a big vocabulary when you’re spewing a bunch of total f****** nonsense all the time?

  5. Take a few minutes watching PBS and you’ll probably hear one word every few sentences that you have to look up in a dictionary. By the way, documentaries on Netflix aren’t the equivalent of a trip to the library, so if you’re really concerned with your perspicacity, maybe pick up a book and stop blaming TV for your mental decline.
