Regarding Courtney Vaughn and Jeremiah Hayden’s excellent reporting “Judge Strikes Down Safer Portland Lawsuit” (Sept 3), what is up with Secretary of State Tobias Read? At a moment when Portland voters were clearly being lied to so that “Safer Portland” could mislead them about their climate-funds-for-cops money grab scheme, Tobias Read’s response was to throw Elections Division Manager Deborah Scroggin and other city workers under the bus and throw more shade on our the integrity of our elections. All that tells me is that Mr. Read is a triangulator not a fighter. Let’s hope he doesn’t drop the ball on the complaints that “Safer Portland” was clearly lying to Portland voters and violating other petitioning rules.—Anonymous
