I am finding it incredibly difficult to believe that more than seventy-million adult Americans identified with and voted for Donald Trump in the last election. I will readily admit that Democrats have done precious little to help financially struggling American families, the bottom third or more of American households. But how could those same families have come to see Republicans and Trump as a viable alternative? As their champions? Trump and his MAGA sycophants haven’t a shred of empathy for those who voted for him. And those people will most certainly be the ones to suffer first and most when he takes office in less than a week and enacts the very policies he openly discussed during the campaign. What will they do when he abolishes Medicaid, guts Social Security and Medicare, privatizes the VA health system and cuts veterans’ benefits, attacks labor unions, sabotages public education, shutters the postal service, abandons regulations that promote clean air and water while slowing climate change, eradicates workplace safety regulations, and eliminates food stamps? What will the country do once he takes his meat cleaver to America’s already enfeebled democracy? What will happen to all of us when the oligarchs assume full control of every lever of power? This could spell the doom of the promise and shining myth of America. Desperation makes fools of us all.

  1. Speaking from experience. Please note I alternate between explanation and using their talking points. I don’t actually advocate it.

What will they do when he abolishes Medicaid…and Medicare

A not insignificant portion of these people don’t believe in real healthcare. They opt for quack medicine such as chiropractors, colloidal silver, prayer, foot detoxes, etc.

    guts Social Security

Some think of themselves as “self-reliant” and refuse any sort of help. Even if it is their own money in a roundabout way. Not to mention that I think most of us are aware that social security funds have been spent on wars and other silly things.

    privatizes the VA health system

See resisting help and opposing proven medicine above.

    attacks labor unions

They wouldn’t join a union if they had the option. Union workers are lazy.

    sabotages public education

Doesn’t matter. Public education is a tool to indoctrinate kids (which, it is, but also necessary). Things like sex-ed are scary.

    shutters the postal service

    The private market will serve.

abandons regulations that promote clean air and water while slowing climate change

Climate change is a farce. The Christian deity gave us permission to rule the land as we see fit.

    eradicates workplace safety regulations

Safety regulations slow down work and are mostly red-tape.

    and eliminates food stamps?

See: “self-reliance”. Most people abuse food stamps. It’s a bad program. Even if they even used them at one point themselves.

What will the country do once he takes his meat cleaver to America’s already enfeebled democracy?

Christianity is authoritarian. They are primed to love this stuff.

What will happen to all of us when the oligarchs assume full control of every lever of power?

    At least it’s not government.

Truly. People do not understand a few things:

    1) Fundamentalist Christianity is a danger to us all. If you haven’t lived in it, you truly do not understand how nuts they are.

    2) The Rust Belt in particular was left to rot and die for the New Economy. Government has been very little help to them.

    3) Individualism rules everything. Or at least the idea of it. Everyone wants to be Jeremiah Johnson.

    4) The Democratic party plays identity politics and uses Corporate Newspeak for language. Republicans pretend as if they’re pro-worker. Trump talks to voters like he’s any other guy doing a roofing job in 105F heat. Even if he’s never picked up a hammer in his life.

  2. I think it was more Dems lost in some key places than GOP won. Even here, enthusiasm for Harris in Mult Co less than that for Biden 4 years earlier…also same in our state…the Dems lost voter support for their Pres. Candidate, even tho still a blue state, but less so. Maybe I’ll put up stats as post on this.

  3. Because this country is bought and sold by the wealthy. That’s why. And the people who voted for him are racist AF, hate women, and all are so delusional they believe they are closer to the billionaires than the poor they vilify. They also believe that when Trump rids the United States of everyone who isn’t white all of their problems will be solved. People in this country are incomprehensibly stupid AF and dumb AF. They fucked around and they are going to find out. If only Democrats in power had held the traitor and felon accountable and put him in prison. Oh well. Stick a fork in this country because it is DONE. All each of us can do now is bend over and kiss our asses goodbye, because no matter where we fall in the order of things, we are all going to get raped and murdered by the shit show that is about to ensue.

  4. It is about honesty. in 2020, Joe and the party should have realized he was a one term president due to his health. Had they admitted the obvious at the end of year one, democrats could have had 3 years to choose and run a qualified candidate, likely winning the election.

Instead, they bluffed. On debate night, the bluff was called. We lost. Bottom line. Never try to bullshit the American voter.

  5. “Never try to bullshit the American voter.”

    its gonna suck

  7. Let’s see, cost of housing, cost and access to medical care/insurance, genocide paid for with our tax dollars, and Climate change. The biggest issues for Americans, and during the election neither candidate and neither party could even talk dickshit about them. I can see why lots of people didn’t vote and just stayed home.

  8. Welcome back Christina Rae. I’ve missed you. Truly. I get so pissed thinking about the state of this country that I can’t formulate a frickin sentence. Perhaps I’m too emotional, I try to keep it in the realm of “it’s not personal, it’s business”, but I am reminded that the orange idiot has bankrupted so many companies that i’ve lost count. We are all gonna get what we deserve, him included. As an old mentor of mine used to say, “everyone pays in the end”. Let’s hope so.
